The band was formed as Gothic in Romania by Alin Petruț, but not happy with the state of the scene in Romania, he re-located the band to Belgium and changed its name to Ali(e)n and then to Innerfire in 2004. Alin P. was eventually deported from Belgium back to Romania in 2005 and was forced to leave the band. He decided to reform Gothic as a separate entity from the still-active Innerfire.
