THE WATERS DEEP HERE is an instrumental experimental progressive metal band from Salt Lake City comprised of Zachary ALVEY on guitar, Derk BROWN on bass and Nathan JOHNSON on drums. Zach and Derk grew up together in a small town and started playing music together after high school. After a couple of years their first band had to disband due to the fact that Derk moved to Texas to pursue his education, while Zach started a death metal band. The two friends crossed their paths once again in 2006 in Salt Lake City and they immediately decided to start playing together. They met Nathan at a record store in 2007 and the trio started writing music together. All the three band members have different music influences which helped them create their own sound.

After giving up on the idea of finding a singer, the trio decided to record an album as an instrumental band. Their first record, "Sunden", was released in 2009 and exhibits an array of music influences that mashes together metal, progressive rock and post rock. The absence of vocals and lyrics, except for the actual song titles, leaves the music entirely to the listener's own interpretation. Musically, THE WATERS DEEP HERE is influenced by bands like TOOL, ISIS and COHEED AND CAMBRIA. If you're a fan of prog rock or metal then give THE WATERS DEEP HERE a try.
