The Heart of Madness

i. Overture
ii. Breaking Point (02:43)
Another birthday,
another day locked in this empty room
And outside, mommy uses.
Another visitor
another one who wants what she won't do
And fists, if she refuses.
On the edge of hope,
the boy begins to lean.
He finds a way to cope
with things that he has seen.
Deep within the void
a childhood fades away.
The boy deprived of toys
finds other ways to play.
Another beating
another lesson failed to understand
and mommy stands in silence.
And while they're sleeping
the sharpened steel feels warm within his hands
and so began the violence
iii. Confrontation (05:11)
You're not welcome here
stay away from us all
Your mentality
isn't meant for this world
Your drawings are twisted
Your words have a bite
Those ungodly whimpers in the dead of night
You show no expression
Your eyes have no fire
Those torturous heathens that you admire
You're my darkest sin
and I'll forever pay
The surviving twin
You sucked his life away
Get away from me
Put it down I swear
I will never lock
you away again
He's done nothing wrong
Please I beg of you
Call for help and I
Swear I'll never hurt you again
Look what you have done
They will come for you
I will not protect
you, my bastard son
They will know it's you
If you kill me too
I can feel my life slipping away..
iv. De morte matris (06:43)
Mother, can you hear me
there's light still in your eyes
Together, we will both be free
No longer trapped inside.
The basement was my prison,
and yours this mortal coil
Your home for all eternity
the confines of the soil
As I reach down to feel your skin
I feel a presence from within
a coldness building up inside
a pain from which I cannot hide
Your memories will fade
Once my mind takes control
They'll never find your body
and I never found your soul
[SOLO: G Mcleod 08:11]
[SOLO: M Reid 08:38]
v. The Struggle Within (09:16)
[Instrumental]
MALE: "In a shocking turn, police who were called to what appeared to be an abandoned home, discovered the body of an adult male, presumed to be in his forties, who they believe had lain undiscovered for more than six years. The owner of the house and her young son were nowhere to be found."
FEMALE: "The FBI have today confirmed that the body of Serena Rhone, owner of the property on Lakeside Park where the remains of a man were found, has been discovered in a nearby woodland. They believe they were killed around the same time. The search for her son, Albert, continues."
MALE: "It is indeed a sad day for all concerned, and I know that the people of Lakeside will never be the same."
vi. The Struggle Without (11:17)
I read today they'd found your body.
They still don't know if I'm alive.
They're digging up the woods around you.
They hope the little boy survived.
I didn't mean to kill you, mother.
I only wanted to give you pain.
But when I saw you on the front page.
I longed to hear your voice again.
I tried to stop the bleeding
But then I saw the feeling in your eyes
I should have tried to help you
But I was paralysed.
I need to find someone who'll love me.
Someone who'll show how much they care.
They'll pull me in and wrap around me.
And gently soothe and stroke my hair.
The years I spent alone in silence
my childhood cruelly ripped away
I never asked to be the one who lived
And still you hated anyway.
And now I have the feelings
from seeing you again
The sadness grows inside me
and I know how it can end.
vii. Serena (14:44)
You look a lot like her
You wear your hair the same
I bet you smell like her
I long for your embrace
I know that, given time
If I could save your life
You'd learn to love this boy
And I could feel alive
I hear you beneath me
Crying out in vain
I'll be your saviour
And I'll feel love again
Why did you leave me?
Why did you give me pain?
I'd started feeling
But you ripped that away
[GUIT SOLO: M Reid 16:16]
[KEYS SOLO: M Reid 16:32]
viii. If At First (16:17)
FEMALE: "Reports are coming in of yet another missing woman around the Lakeside Park area, the fifth in as many weeks, all matching the same description of shoulder-length blonde hair. Authorities believe these women may have been taken by the same person and are encouraging women in the area to exercise extreme caution."
ix.A Stab in the Dark (17:31)
[Instrumental]
And as the light streams through the basement cracks
There's nothing where you used to be
Your scent still masks that of the others
And so you can't be far from here
I look for movement in the shadows
But there's only stillness all around
When suddenly, a burning in my neck
and I fall to the ground
FEMALE: "In a startling turn, police have taken a twenty-year-old man into custody for the abduction of the missing women in the Lakeside Park area. The incident is believed to have been called in by his latest victim, who was able to free herself and take down her kidnapper. It is not yet known what happened to the others, or how many."
MALE: "And, of course, the biggest story of the day is that Albert Rhone, believed to be responsible for the missing Lakeside women, has now been charged for a total of twenty-four counts of murder. Forensic experts also believe that he is responsible for the death of his mother, Serena, nine years ago, as well as her lover."
x. The Struggle Ends (19:55)
I like how this is feeling
A warmth flows through me now
This gentle heat is melting
The ice around my heart
A light above is calling
I hear your voice within
No longer in the darkness
I'm seeing you again
And standing there beside you
The other part of me
Your hands stretched out towards me
Together, we are free
[SOLO to fade G. Mcleod]
MALE: "Lakeside Police Department have today issued a statement wherein Albert Rhone, the twenty-year-old local boy who had been missing and feared dead since age eleven, has not only confessed to the brutal murder of twenty-four women but also the intentional death of his mother's lover. However, Rhone maintains that the death of his mother was accidental."
PSYCHOLOGIST:
"Were you aware of what you were doing?"
ALBERT:
"Um, yes."
PSYCHOLOGIST:
"Was it your intention to kill these women?"
ALBERT:
"I never meant to kill them. I meant to save them."
PSYCHOLOGIST:
"Why did you kill your mother?"
ALBERT:
"I didn't mean to kill her. It just... it happened."
PSYCHOLOGIST:
"And her lover? Why'd you kill her lover."
ALBERT:
"He was bad. All of them. They were all bad. ALL bad. He deserved to die."
PSYCHOLOGIST:
"And the women? Did they deserve to die?"
ALBERT:
"They didn't deserve to die. That was never my intention. It just... I mean... I'm sorry."

Darkness ebbs around you
And light is crumbling from within
Voices calling for you
And fingers run across your skin
The silence you feel inside you
The ropes that bind your limbs
The steps you take will find you
Forever standing still
Breath is taken from you
And rationale will disappear
Paranoia holds you
But all your fears are far from real
The questions that rise within you
The rush as you're falling fast
The panic as ground approaches
And soon you're soaring past
If I could fly like in my dreams
I'd find a way to get to you
And help us break free of these chains
We could rise above it all
And have the life that we would choose
So only happiness remains
Shadows in the distance
Seem to shift within the wind
Hands are reaching for you
But something prompts them to resist
The power that builds inside you
Begins to resonate
No longer will darkness bind you
You're suddenly free from hate
If I could fly like in my dreams
I'd find a way to get to you
And help us break free of these chains
We could rise above it all
And have the life that we would choose
So only happiness remains
We fight through it all
And still we're tethered here
Trying to break away
Always standing tall
Weathering the fear
To fight another day
If I could fly like in my dreams
I'd find a way to get to you
And help us break free of these chains
We could rise above it all
And have the life that we would choose
So only happiness remains

Hurts Like Hell
06:24
|
|||
The empty bed
The ghostly ring still shimmers
Wet from where your coffee cup once lay
The pillow dent
The quiet cruel reminder
Of the words I'll never hear you say
And in the air around the room
Still hangs the warm familiar smell of your perfume
I hear you speak, but you're not there
I'm haunted by the thought that you no longer care
I close my eyes
I see you walk towards me in that silver dress
I skip a beat
In quiet contemplation, I long for your caress
They gather round, but I see you
There's no one here but you and me
And all at once, the moment fades
I'm dragged back to reality
Now you're gone I'm all alone
Surrounded, but none of them are you
You ripped a hole within my soul
So I can never be complete
And even though I try, I can't go on like this
'Cos it hurts like hell when you're gone
And I don't ever want to feel this way anymore
The light within my heart is giving way to the dark
And I can't feel... 'cos nothing's real
And it hurts like hell
It's been a while
I've tried to call
But still your voice is never heard
I ask around
Abandoned everyone
And gone without a word
And all the photos
On my phone
Show no signs that you would leave
The plans we made
The things you'd said
I wonder how I failed to see
I always thought you felt the same way
I hoped that we'd fight through it all
If I could only see through your eyes
I'd understand a little more
But I'm not sure
'Cos it hurts like hell when you're gone
And I don't ever want to feel this way anymore
The light within my heart is giving way to the dark
And I can't feel... 'cos nothing's real

Righteous Breed
06:21
|
|||
Bad to the bone
In your ivory tower
You think you're forward
But you're stuck in reverse
Clinging to the notion
That you're making it great
You're only making it worse
The freedom that they fought for and died
Is being abused today
The followers who peddle your lies
Believe that you're the way
You're reaching out
Trying to maximise power
You bought your way in
And you're paying the price
Looking after those
Who line your pockets with gold
And still your people divide
Their freedom that you squandered with lies
Is making news today
The walls they built are being defiled
A broken sanctuary
Help destroy the seed
Of their righteous breed
Turn the tide and cast them away
Help erase the lines
That their kind defines
Look inside and stand up today
We will rise again
Cities will defend
Anyone they had in their sights
We will take control
And they will lose their hold
Fight for freedom
And the struggle to survive
Your constitution
Masks the truth of your cause
Hiding in plain sight
Citing chapter and verse
Taking to the streets
You say you're taking them back
By stamping out the diverse
The freedom that they fought for and died
Is being abused today
The walls they built are being defiled
A broken sanctuary
Help destroy the seed
Of their righteous breed
Turn the tide and cast them away
Help erase the lines
That their kind defines
Look inside and stand up today
We will rise again
Cities will defend
Anyone they had in their sights
We will take control
And they will lose their hold
Fight for freedom
And the struggle to survive

Fourteen Days Lain Alone
05:27
|
|||
Feels like yesterday I cried
A little part of me had died
But it's over now
It's clear to see that something's wrong
And yet the news that you were gone
Still won't brush away
It's hard to see through shuttered eyes
The smile you wore as your disguise
In and out, they said you came
Yet every time was just the same
'Cause you hate to feel
The darkest Halloween for you
And ev'ry February 22
Black gave way to blue
It's hard to help those who refuse
Or slip advice within the tubes
Those fourteen days you'd lain alone
Come clean in only fourteen more
Almost twenty years have passed
A little bitter to the last
So you pushed away
Hands were reaching all around
Until the day that you were found
With your shame in you
It's easy now to reconcile
The pain behind your shattered smile
Those fourteen days you'd lain alone
I'd bleed for you for fourteen more

The Feeding Hand
06:22
|
|||
Life begins and nature finds a way
All we do is get through every day
We take our chances, rolling with the dice
But no one sees what lies behind our eyes
Consequences shifting with tide
Slowly bending parallels inside
Taunting demons, bringing to the fore
Doubt and anger thrive for evermore
When all around is dark
We need that vital spark
To light the way within
The game we'll never win
All around they bustle to and fro
No one cares 'cos no one needs to know
The man behind the curtain pulls the strings
And we all nod, believing everything
Black and white, the greyest of the shades
Read between the lines at lies they've made
What is now today, we'll soon forget
And yesterday's beliefs are our regrets
And with the turning tide
We start to wither inside
An empty vessel remains
And they will stake their claim
Until they achieve their aim
The hand that feeds is laced with poison
The mouth that speaks is not without sin
The path we're shown betrays and bathed in darkness
And no light waits at the end
Another day, another chance to strive
The struggle born within us to survive
Scrambling up while falling to the ground
The scraps we're fed are cut from those around
Hypocrisy that fails to see the lies
From shadow creatures bound by loyal ties
Eventually, the cracks begin to show
Revealing truths they feared we'd ever know
Between the twilight and the dawn
The silence helps us carry on
And when the fears invade subconscious thoughts inside
We open our eyes
The hand that feeds is laced with poison
The mouth that speaks is not without sin
The path we're shown betrays and bathed in darkness
And no light waits at the end

A New Horizon
10:07
|
|||
There's a powerful energy
That only flows from you to me
Without you, I can't go on
I am nothing without you by my side
Why did you leave me?
Why did you give me pain?
I can't believe it
I'll make you pay
There's no hope in hell for me
The time has come for me to leave you
You had my heart in your hand
But all along you were squeezing all the life out
Why did you leave me?
Why did you give me pain?
I'd started feeling
And you took that away
Day to day, I see your face
Watch me as I cry
Another time, another place
Another bitch to die
Call me mother, call me dear
Call me what you will
No one knows that I am here
Waiting for the kill
You will be the death of me
I only want you to feel my pain
I can't stand to see your face
I feel your soul and wonder what makes it so dark
Why did you leave me?
Why did you give me pain?
I started feeling
And you ripped that away
Tonight I cleanse myself from sin
Purify the toils within
Tomorrow sees a brand new day
A new horizon
Another era dawns in time
Another chance to get it right
Seize the day like there's no other
